TS files are Transport Stream files that are usually recorded from High Definition Digital TV Broadcasts. The stream contained in TS file may be encoded using MPEG2, H.264, or VC-1 format.

To play back TS files using your media player such as WMP, MPC or KMP, you need install appropriate DirectShow filters. Among the various filters we recommend you use Haali Media Splitter.

MKV is the extension for Matroska file format. Matroska is an container format that wraps video, audio and subtitle, movie information in one file.

One of the easiest way to play MKV file is to install the CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack) codec packs (Download).

After downloaded and installed the CCCP codec pack, you should be able to play most of mkv files using any DirectShow based player such as Windows Media Player, MPC, KMP.


FLAC is a lossless audio format that compress audio files without loss in quality. By default Windows Media Player does not support FLAC formats. To play FLAC files in WMP, you need to install the codecs.


M2TS files are commonly used in SONY and Panasonic camcoders. The files are compressed using AVCHD format at nearly 15:1 ratio. M2TS files are also present on Blu-ray disc.

One of an easy wary to play M2TS file is using the commercial software CyberLink PowerDVD 8 Ultra.
